Coupling refers to a device that connects two shafts or shafts and a rotating member, which rotates together during the transmission of motion and power, and does not disengage under normal conditions. Sometimes used as a safety device to prevent the connected parts from being subjected to excessive loads and to protect against overload.Couplings are also known as shaft couplings. A mechanical component used to securely couple a drive shaft and a driven shaft in different mechanisms together to transmit motion and torque. Sometimes used to connect shafts to other parts (such as gears, pulleys, etc.). It is often synthesized by two halves, which are respectively connected by a key or a tight fit, fastened at the two shaft ends, and then the two halves are coupled in some way. The coupling can compensate for the offset (including axial offset, radial offset, angular offset or integrated offset) between the two shafts due to inaccurate manufacturing installation, deformation during operation or thermal expansion. ; and to mitigate shock and vibration. Most commonly used couplings have been standardized or standardized. In general, only the type of coupling should be correctly selected and the type and size of the coupling should be determined. If necessary, the load of the vulnerable weak link can be checked; when the speed is high, the centrifugal force of the outer edge and the deformation of the elastic element are checked, and the balance check is performed.

Coupling Type
Couplings can be divided into two types: rigid couplings and flexible couplings.
Rigid couplings.
The rigid coupling does not have the cushioning ability and the ability to compensate the relative displacement of the two axes. It requires two axes to be strictly centered, but the coupling has a simple structure, low manufacturing cost, and assembly and disassembly. It is easy to maintain and can ensure high alignment of the two shafts, large transmission torque and wide application. Commonly used are flange couplings, sleeve couplings and clamp couplings.
Flexible couplings.
The flexible coupling can be further divided into an inelastic flexible coupling and a flexible coupling with elastic components. The former type only has the ability to compensate the relative displacement of the two axes, but can not buffer the vibration, and the common one is slippery. Block couplings, gear couplings, universal couplings and chain couplings; the latter category contains elastic elements, in addition to the ability to compensate the relative displacement of the two axes, it also has a buffering and damping effect, However, the transmitted torque is limited by the strength of the elastic element, and generally less than the flexible coupling of the non-elastic element. The common elastic sleeve pin coupling, elastic pin coupling, plum-shaped coupling, tire type Couplings, serpentine spring couplings and reed couplings.
